Design Day

Monday morning saw Snook and the Total Craigroyston team in Craigroyston Community High School bright and early setting up for Design Day.

Around 50 people came along, representing the local community, and local services and organisations in equal measure. Christine MacKay, manager for Total Craigroyston, introduced the initiative. She made it clear how important it is that we make sure every child has the best possible start in life and emphasised Edinburgh Council’s commitment to do whatever it takes.

The day was a chance to explore further some of the major themes identified by Snook during their week of immersion as well as to begin to build upon some of the ideas put forward during this week. There were six tables, each focusing on a different theme and facilitated by a member of the Total Craigroyston team or Snook. “My Idea” postcards, maps, pens, profile cards and plasticine were provided as an aid to help prompt thought, discussion and ideas.

Up for discussion were issues around peoples’ visions for Craigroyston and themselves, the resources already in the area and how they might be more effectively used, how the community communicates with local services and how they can affect change, ways in which local services can connect with and understand each other better, and the recognition that preventing a situation from occurring in the first place is better for all parties than having to intervene further down the line.
